Winter 2012
Ladylike, and all it historically entails for casual, corporate, dinner and glamour wear - crisp white, coloured and patterned silky blouses with pencil skirts or slim-cut cigarette-leg trousers cropped at the ankles (plain for minimalism, patterned for modernity), or wide-leg patio trousers for the adventurous.
The breakthrough trend
Designers' love affair with drooped ruching and elegant drapery is waning. The most modern dresses, coats and skirts are constructed of stiffer stuff to draw harder, more graphic silhouettes - cut clean, sharp and asymmetric, with a couple of stiff folds pinched into the fabric to enhance its shape.
Leather is still in there for winter, but velvets and silks are also enjoying a big comeback.
This season, multi-fabrication is everywhere, with garments being constructed from a variety of contrasting panels. The result is a wide proliferation of asymmetrical hemlines and interestingly structured garments. The look is mostly used in tops, skirts and outerwear.
